Capital paid forward
Jacob had worked for Laban for 7 years in exchange of a wife, Rachel, but come reward time he was given Leah . But because he knew whom he wanted he worked for another 7 years to get Leah. A total of 14 years. My goodness!
Even after that continuously working for Laban, the wealth of Laban increased under his stewardship. At that juncture Jacob asked Laban to allow him to go back home. Laban would not allow him because he recognised the value he brought to him. Laban wanted to keep Jacob desperately and so he asked him to state what he wanted. Jacob said “you know I have served you well” . “You know I have worked hard for you”.
It was on the basis of this working well and working hard that he was given a share of the sheep which multiplied so much that by the time he was finally going back home, the sons of Laban were jealous of how wealthy he had become and the bible confirms he had become very prosperous and had huge flocks, many men and women servants.
There is capital you can build by working for other people so well and so hard . You will get rewards and increases that you can save to use as seed capital for your business.
When you are employed, work so hard and build your value so high till your employer is the one asking you to name your reward. Create patience around your work and don’t quit until you realise what brought you into that workplace in the first place. We have too many quitters. Don’t be one of them.
When you eventually must go, don’t just pack and go. Tell your employer nicely. Make arrangement and plan the exit. Don’t burn the bridges. You never know. You may need them again.
Can you genuinely look back at the week and tell your employer to their face, “you know I have served you well.” “You know I have worked hard”. There is a reward for a job well done, if not by man by God himself. Let’s create great movers and shakers.
