The gears and brakes

Many motivational speakers will use the car as an example to release some fundamental lessons. You have all heard that you should spend very little time in the rearview mirror and that you should spend more time looking ahead. The rearview mirror representing the history and windscreen represents the future.

Many of us remain focused on looking through the rearview mirror. Focusing on the past and not the future. Thinking of the good old days! But perhaps you have also realised that before you use the rearview mirror or look ahead through the windscreen, you first need to ignite the car! Many of us have already started our life journey, our cars.

Depending on where you are, you need to engage the gears; 1st , 2nd , 3rd, 4th and if you are “lucky”5th. But do you realise that at any of these speeds you can brake either in an emergency or on purpose? If the brakes fail you would be in trouble? If you brake well you will continue with your journey as soon as the perceived or real danger is over.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have had to engage brakes in our businesses, in our jobs, in our missions and so on. There is the need to do so depending on your circumstances.

Our economy is not where we would love it to be. Our finances are not where we would have anticipated.  Our new year goals and resolutions have all been put into jeopardy. The big question now is, have you engaged the right gear or even engaged your brakes? This will determine whether you will hold your life’s journey until it is safe to continue with your journey.

How fast you engage your brakes may determine whether you will be able to avoid danger? Determine in your mind what gear you need to engage. If you need to brake, please do. But rest with the comfort that as you do this the car is still in motion. It has only temporary slowed down.

But woe to him who forgets to change the gears or even engage the necessary brakes. For example, have you reviewed your expenses, your contractual obligations, both internally and externally, your social, emotional or even spiritual behaviour? We definitely cannot continue living like its business as usual because it is not! But remember, at GMMM our destiny cannot be cut short. We will go all the way. Our end game is to get to the mountain top. Remain blessed.
