Whatever you ask
The word of God tells us that we do not have because we do not ask. Yet many of us are on an ask mission day and night. And perhaps we have nothing to show of it. Those houses, cars, we so desire, are further away than when we started.
Our incomes are even shrinking instead of increasing. Yet because we know our God, we still will ask.
But wait a minute: Could it be that your motive is wrong? The last time I checked, God answered the prayers of Daniel, of Esther, of Hannah, of Elijah Joshua, of Peter, of early church and many others.
And so I have confidence that He is still in the business of answering prayers, for He changes not. Yet one time or the other you have felt that heaven is silent. A story is told of a community that agreed to congregate and seek God to bring rain on their land. And they all gathered.
But interestingly, only a small boy carried an umbrella. Maybe God needs the faith of a child. Do you carry an umbrella as you seek God on your matter? Let’s check out the level and quality of our faith.
Perhaps what could be an even greater issue is our motive. Is our motive to glorify God, to serve others or just for ourselves? Our comfort? Or just to be seen by others, that we live in a prestigious address or we drive the latest model. Could it be we are envious of our friends, relatives or neighbours? (Envy is a sin).
What’s your real motive?
And remember, you can’t fool God. He searches our hearts and knows them all. If your motive is not right,
You will never get what you ask for. The scripture is so clear. Look at this: “You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires. “ James 4:3 AMP.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God will never change. Let’s learn to use it as our guiding compass. As we go on our knees, we will go with the right motive. Over to you.
